Our second day in Edinburgh had more steep climbs, and more amazing views. There are basically 3 peaks here: one for the castle, one is King Arthur's Seat, and on the third is the unfinished monument. We did the first two yesterday, and today we went to the top of the unfinished monument (a bunch of columns in the shape of a U).
We also climbed the Walter Scott Monument (built for the Scottish author), which is positioned near the middle of the three peaks of Edinburgh. It was a ridiculously cramped spiral staircase of 287 stairs (there were 3 breaks during the climb), it's not for those that can't handle tight spaces or get dizzy easily. The views at the top, however, were worth the hike and the awkward squeezing-by of fellow climbers going the opposite direction on the stairs.
After all that climbing, we spent the rest of the day trying to walk level ground from pub to cafe to restaurant. We also stumbled upon 3 old cemeteries with huge grave markers and crypts that are open to the public. While we thought it was weird to sunbathe and each lunch on top of a grave, apparently the Scots don't feel the same.
So far, Edinburgh is our favorite town. We took about 250 pictures in 2 days, but we don't think they'll really show how cool the city is. Our legs are looking forward to a flatter city, we'll see if Glasgow delivers tomorrow.
