We made it!
After a few delays and transfers, we made it to Cinque Terre. We had to pull out our directions emailed from our hotel lady in Italian/broken-English to find our room/apartment (walk through the train tunnel, find the mural, go through the pedestrian walkway, behind the ristorante...)
We met our lady and she walked us up 55 stairs (some narrow sidewalk stairs between buildings, some indoors) to our apartment. We had two separate bedrooms, each with a bathroom and kitchen area, and an awesome balcony. Don't get me wrong, we was sure the cheap plastic furniture would break at any moment. But from the perch, we could see the Mediterranean poking through, the "main" city street, and the rows of houses stacked on one another. It felt very "Italy."
We ate some pesto pizza and pasta at the nearby restaurant (the area is known for their pesto) and bought some vino rosso from the grocer. We went over to the bay to watch the sunset before spending the remainder of the night playing rummy until the bottle was empty.
France was great, but I (Kevin) am happy to be in Italia, and can't wait for the morning.
