Day 12: Lyon, France

Today's post should be short.

We woke up in Paris, took a train to get one last grilled cheese baguette in the latin quarter, and on to Lyon. We got an important lesson on the French TGV train, you need a reservation despite having a Eurail Pass. As we were riding, the train staff asked us for our reserved tickets, our passes wouldn't cut it. When we couldn't produce a reservation, they asked us for 245 Euros (that's about $400). Our flabergasted faces and pleas for another way convinced the train employee that we unintentionally failed to make the 15 Euro reservation at the station. He gave us a break, and charged us 40 Euro, we were relieved.

Once we were in Lyon, we found our hotel (an hour and a half adventure because we forgot to look it up before we left Paris), and then went out to relax with some drinks and food. We were surprised to find a lot of people drinking beer. We thought we'd join in, and we did a little bar hop intermixed with ice cream and paninis. It was a relaxing day, in contrast to yesterday.

PS - the beers we had included two Abbeys (Grimbergen and Affligem), a Meteor (similar to a Stella), and a Wilfort Kronenburg dark.
