Day 25: Roma

Today was our last day in Roma. We started early to have breakfast and say goodbye to Brooke's parents. Our early start had an unintended benefit too. We toured the Coliseum & Roman Forum before the crowds, so we were up close and alone to see where the Roman senators met and where Julius Cesar was killed.

Although we were up and ready to go at 8 am, our tour guide of the Coliseum appeared to be combatting a hangover or something, and his English wasn't quite on the mark. We ditched the tour half-way through and showed ourselves around. This tour was in stark contrast to our hyper (and free) guide at the Pantheon the day before.

Next we went to the Vatican Museum to see the Sistene Chapel (sp?). Again, we're not real big on the art, but with the help of a Rick Steve's audio guide on our iPod, it was very interesting.

We also made the 581 step trek to the top of St. Peter's, where you can see all of Roma.

For our last night, we got a final meal by the Spanish Steps and walked by the Trevi Fountain one more time.

Off to Sorrento tomorrow.
