One thing Europe has a lot of is mopeds (although mostly France and Italy). Along the way on this trip we have seen some funny moped action. So here is a short list of examples:
1) Paris - two guys on a moped, the one on back holding a 12 ft ladder upside down
2) Paris - a guy riding solo no handed down a hill surrounded by cars as if it was nothing
3) Sorrento - we thought this was the best moped city until Palermo, but here we saw a bit of everything. A little kid standing on the floor board helping his mom steer her moped down a busy street, what seems like 12 year olds riding solo, two people sharing the moped while one holds a pizza, three guys all on one moped, and mopeds scooting between buses to pass along the Amalfi Coast highway.
4) Palermo - best for last, three not-so-skinny Sicilian women, each with a lit cigarette hanging out of their mouth, one holding a few bags, and a 4 year old standing up on the foot board with his head peaking over the handle bars and a sucker in his mouth (this was a site to see). After their pit stop (I'll say to buy more cigs), they failed at remounting. The 3rd lady was just too much, and the moped fell over bringing the kid and other 2 ladies with it. They dusted themselves off (cigs still lit, sucker still in mouth), one lady was forced to walk home, but the other 2 and kid rode off into the alley. One more thing, not one of them was wearing a helmet.
