Our first stop off the train was a McDonald's for coffee and free WiFi to figure out how to get to our hotel. Our hotel was in Pest and when we arrived they let us check in early. Checking in was a great because it allowed us to refresh after the night train ride.
We struck out without a plan because Budpest isn't the easiest to get a handle on. We figured a little walking around would help us get better oriented. We found a shopping area and by the time we finished our second coffee of the day to fight our grogginess, it was time to eat lunch. We found a semi-fancy place where Kevin had delicious chicken paprikas.
After lunch we started to explore Buda. Budapest has a similar set up to Prague. The Danube river divides Buda with its hill top "castle" from Pest down below. The two main differences are that 1) Prague has a more toy-land type feel and look with its old time architecture and stone roads, and 2) Budapest covers a lot larger area.
We crossed the Chain Bridge and took a funicular up the hill for some panoramic views of the Danube and Pest. Then roamed by all the buildings and a church, and stopped in a museum. Other than one section (shown in pic), the Budapest Castle is similar to Prague's in that it isn't all that castle-like. Mostly just some cool buildings and a church behind walls.
We made it until about 6 when we crashed at our hotel for a couple hour nap. We woke up and went out for walk by the opera house and for a drink, but that was about it. No Benko or Karazi sitings yet, but we're keeping a look out.
PS - Happy Birthday Posti.
