Day 47: Prague

We slept in a little this morning, missing our free continental breakfast that ended at ten (maybe too many pivos the night before), but headed down to the free WiFi Starbucks for a cappuccino and bagel. We also got a local pastry from a street stand, which is kind of like a churro in a doughnut shape.

After a quick stop at a nearby church and top of its bell tower, we crossed back over the Charles bridge to market square where they were setting up for the Bohemia Jazz Fest (www.bohemiajazzfest.com). They had a wood fire grill with hams roasting on a spit, chicken skewers, and more sausages (kalbasas). Although not yet hungry, we couldn't resist.

Eventually we left for Josev, the Jewish Quarter. Jewish people have not had it easy here (understatement), and this is the area they were all forced to live in at one point. We toured a few synagogues, including the 700 year old "Old-New" and the Spanish synagogue. Kevin had to sport a yamaka (sp?) at both. We also saw the Jewish Cemetery, which looked like the most overcrowded cemetery you've ever seen. Apparently they just kept stacking up, and they'd move the tombstone up to the top layer as they went.

Other stops included what we think was Mozart's house and the Basilica, which is as impressive and big as they get.

Finally, the highlight. We went back to Market Square for the now-started Bohemia Jazz Fest. A crowd was around and the beer and food were flowing. We spent our last 2 hours watching shows and filling up for our 12 hour night train ride to Budapest.
